Theodore:Art is pleased to present that old school dystopia, an exhibition of work that shares a nostalgia-tinged vision of the dark possibilities of the future, suggesting the experience of futurist dread in the context of an analogue past.

Bill Albertini is an Irish born artist, he has an MFA in sculpture from Yale University and studied as an undergraduate at Crawford College of Art and Design in Ireland and Ravensbourne College of Art and Design in England. Albertini lives and works in New York where he has exhibited regularly for the last twenty five years, his recent solo exhibitions include “Space Frame Redux” at Martos Gallery and he was included in “Gravity of Sculpture: Part II” curated by Saul Ostrow at Dorsky Gallery in Long Island City in 2013. In the early 1990s Albertini started working extensively with video and computer animation as well as 3D modeling and these continue to be his tools of choice. Memory, process, reenactment and the resultant anomalies or variations are important to Albertini in his work.

Lisa Beck was born in 1958, and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She has had ten solo exhibitions in New York City, seven of which were presented at Feature Inc. Her latest projects include a solo show, "You Are Here" at 33 Orchard in 2014, and group shows "The Painter of Modern Life" at Anton Kern 2015, and "GVA < > JFK" at the Musee d' Art Modern et Contemporain (MAMCO), Geneva in 2016. Other recent shows include at “Another, Once Again, Many Times More,” Martos Gallery, East Marion, NY; “Inhabiting TenEyck,” Storefront TenEyck, Bushwick; one person shows: "The Middle of Everywhere" at Circuit, Lausanne, Switzerland (2015), “Lisa Beck: Observatory,” Galerie Samy Abraham, Paris, 2014 and “Lisa Beck: Endless,” Fort du Bruissin – Centre d’Art Contemporain, Lyon, 2012. A monograph on her work was published in 2015.

Coaxing painterly expression from a documentary device, Carolyn Marks Blackwood’s photographs reframe segments of air, ice and water into vivid color fields, geometric abstractions and flattened motifs. By removing perspective and context, her unmodified images seize ephemeral moments within everyday occurrences and heighten them into foreign, unfamiliar pictures. Blackwood began exhibiting her photography in the last ten years.

Juliette Losq was born in London in 1978. She studied Fine Arts at the Wimbledon College of Art from 2004 to 2007 and at the Royal Academy Schools from 2007 to 2010, specializing in academic drawing. She won the Jerwood Drawing Prize in 2005, while still a student. She uses pen and Chinese ink on paper to create her work, and sometimes watercolor to highlight areas of color. She has also incorporated drawings into her large installations like the "Wunderkammer" exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London in 2010. Juliette Losq has exhibited both collectively and individually in London, as well as in Paris (Galerie Arcturus, 2013) and New York (Theodore Art, 2012). Some of her most recent awards include the Windsor and Newton Painting Prize, at the Griffin Gallery Open (2015), the John Moores Prize -Finalist and Visitor's Choice Award (2014) as well as the Catlin Art Prize, (Short-listed Artist, 2012).

Ted Haddon's miniature paintings on copper are based on observations and reflections of the city and countryside. Interested in the history, techniques and visual stereotypes within Northern European landscape painting, Haddon uses thin layers of oil paint to create images that are evocative and contemplative. Seeming to conform to some of the traditional aspects of romantic landscape painting, at the same time he is motivated by the questions of what do we actually see when we look at a landscape, and in particular, a painting of a landscape. Ted is based in London and has work in private collections worldwide.

Oliver Wasow was born in Madison, Wisconsin and received his BA from Hunter College and his MFA from the Transart Institute in Austria. He lives and works in Rhinebeck, New York, with his wife, two children, a donkey, five goats, 16 chickens, three cats and a dog. He has been exhibiting extensively since the early 1980s. His work was included in the exhibition “Faking It: Manipulated Photography before Photoshop,” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, and two of his portraits were given marquee status in “Here & Now: 80 Years of Photography at The Mint”, an exhibition of acquisitions of the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina. His photographic installation “Hover” will be featured in “Dream States” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2016, where it is part of the permanent collection.

Matthew Weinstein is a visual artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Weinstein's diverse background includes theater, acting, film, screenwriting, design and painting. Weinstein works extensively in 3D animation and aims the technical and narrative concerns of this medium towards the Art World. He also works in painting and bronze casting and sees his work as the gradual uncovering of a totality through the investigation of discrete units of solidified action.
